Once again my job is interfering with my posting schedule.  Last week I was part of an Alaska State wide conference, and this week has started with me trying to track down an intruder to our computer systems.  I will try to post tomorrow but can’t promise anything.

Alright the Indiana Jones game for the PS3 is now available for purchase at Amazon.com.  As well as there various versions of Star Wars, not to mention there upcoming version of Batman.  What is the point of this banter?  There is too much lego, yes I said it.  Lego products are cool enough in real life they don’t need to move into themed games.  There stand alone software is enough, and there planned MMO looks awesome, but to revamp these movies to be in the lego world is just to much for me.  Plus when lego is free form it is funner anyway.

OK I will let you know right now that before last Sunday I was not a big fan of cell phones. Yes in my previous WebCandy’s I read a lot of stories about cell phones. But I really didn’t use one, yes I did own one, but the only time I even turned it on was when I was traveling. However on Sunday I purchased a Motorola Q. It could be said that this phone has too many feature for the average consumer however for a technology professional such as my self it is great. Email, Internet, IM are all included. This is a great phone but if you a considering buying one the price is steep. Just keep that in mind. Also living in Alaska cell coverage is always an issue I went with ACS as a provider and so far I have no complaints. As a matter of fact I am stunned I get coverage in areas where there hasn’t been coverage for years. As an example I live in a valley that could be described as a “hole”, and in the past there has been no coverage, however with this provider I get wireless internet, and very clear phone coverage as well. I am very happy with this purchase.

OK who here has seen Aliens. I know I did, and I rather enjoyed it. Who could forget the scene where Ripley takes on the Queen Alien with her exo suit. Well that time may be approaching. The US army is experimenting with robotic suits that have many of the same equalities as the “crane” that Ripley used. The suits provide greater strength, and more endurance for the soldier wearing them. Granted the men wearing these particular suits will not be space marines, but they could still be the old fashioned marines the have been made so popular in countless movies and novels. So instead of “Get away from her you bitch!” a soldier would say “Step off my ammo dump bro!” Personally I cant wait until these suit are to the point where they enter the civilian market. They could give a hole no meaning to the word “cargo pants”.

Hopefully all of you know that tax season is upon us again. Oh and just a heads up tax paperwork needs to be filed or at least mailed by tomorrow. Now to the penalty session of this post. It has come to my attention that those of us (myself included) who decide to e-file will receive our tax rebate sooner than those who do not. Perhaps this is because all the data entering has already been done with the e-file and IRS agents don’t need to do as much work. However personally I really don’t like this. As connected as this country is there are still some people who do not have access to the internet. Even with open library access, and internet “cafes”. I don’t believe that these people should be punished simple because the don’t have access to the internet. Now I realize that this issue isn’t as simple as this post makes it to be, but this country is experiencing yet another split in it’s people. Those who have access to the internet and the newest technology, and those who don’t.
Actually I have an Alaska specific example. Here in Alaska Residents receive the Permanent Fund Dividend (Wikipedia). If you file for the PFD online you will receive it a good month or more before those who didn’t. Many less than fortunate persons use the PFD to buy food and supplies for the winter. So you would think that these people should get the Dividend first, but chance are that these same people are those who have limited or no access to the servers in order to submit the electronic paper work to receive the funds.
Now reading this you may say that I am just complaining and quite frankly you would be right. However the first step in solving a problem is identifying the problem. As the saying goes “The squeaky wheel always gets the grease“.

Sorry guys I was working all day, and as such had no time to post an opinion piece today. Hopefully tomorrow will slow down, and I can share some wisdom.

P.S. as a testament to the fact that I was busy today I am posting at 3:00PM AKST as opposed to my normal 10:00AM AKST.

On Saturday Charlton Heston (Wikipedia) passed away. In the last couple of years he was probably best known for his conservative activism especially in regards to the National Rifle Association (Wikipedia). His famous quote “From my cold, dead hands” became somewhat of a joke, but personally I agree with him. There is another famous line “The right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed” ~ 2nd amendment (Wikipedia). He was then put on the spot by Micheal Moore in Fahrenheit 9/11. However even with all this political upheaval he was first and foremost an actor, ranging his abilities from Ben-Hur to Planet of the Apes.  All in all on Saturday the world lost a artist and a good man.

CNN did a story about Minnesota recently and how is was soooo cold there in a direct quote form the article:The temperature in International Falls, Minnesota, fell to a record 40 below zero Monday, just a few days after the town won a federal trademark officially making it the “Icebox of the Nation”. Nation’s ‘Icebox’ hits record 40 below zero. Quite frankly I am offended by this claim. Why just last week there were places in my own Copper River Basin where the temperature hit 48 below if not colder. There is a reason when William Seward purchased Alaska from the Russians that the American public dubbed it the “Great Icebox”. Once again America forgets about Alaska. Furthermore there are many senators who are talking about the “bridge to nowhere”. That bridge was meant to be built here in Alaska. So if they can remember that fiasco why can’t they remember that 40 below and colder temperatures are very common in many parts of Alaska?
